The landfill’s capacity for disposal of leachate in the lined cells is less than is produced annually and a new concentrator is needed to increase evaporation capacity and decrease leachate inventory.

A youth-only king salmon fishery opportunity is happening for anglers 15 years and younger on Wednesday, June 8 on the Ninilchik River.

Relay For Life South Event Lead, Johna Beech, told KSRM, “The event happens the first Saturday of June. We’ve been hosting this for about 25 years on the Kenai Peninsula. It will be at Soldotna Creek Park from noon to six.”

The site will be staffed by city employees to prevent disposal of anything other than slash such as appliances and regular household trash.

The event is to walk a mile in solidarity with impoverished and trafficked children, and it is being conducted to raise funds for JOY International and Home of Hope.

One proposed amendment that was not adopted would have added one additional street operator position, citing the extra workload due to the amount of snowfall the Kenai Peninsula received this past winter.

She said in a statement, “Over the past twenty years I have built the most important relationships of my life among the people of Alaska, and I look forward to working tirelessly to give back to this great state.”

The National Weather Service is in the process of reviewing the incident.
