Superior Court Judge William Morse agreed with the Alaska Division of Elections’ reading of the law, after previously saying he was tentatively inclined to rule that way. His decision was appealed to the Alaska Supreme Court.

The lawsuit says the fifth-place finisher in the special primary, Republican Tara Sweeney, should be put on the August special election ballot in place of independent Al Gross, who withdrew his candidacy.

“We made the decision that this is not a candidate fight,” Sweeney campaign manager Karina Waller said in an interview. “This is on the ranked choice voting procedures that the voters approved, and … this is not our fight.”

A top Alaska elections official said Tuesday that the fifth-place finisher in the special primary for Alaska’s U.S. House seat will not advance to an August special election following the withdrawal of independent Al Gross, who was in third place.

Al Gross, an independent running for Alaska’s only U.S. House seat, said late Monday that he is ending his campaign after a top finish in this month’s special primary.

During the height of the pandemic, Capstone operated 21 testing and vaccination sites in Alaska. In some communities, it was the sole provider.

Regenerate Alaska, a subsidiary of Australia-based 88 Energy Ltd., was one of three entities that won leases during the sale held in the waning days of the Trump administration.

The owner of the largest natural gas utility in Alaska says it is selling the company to Canada-based TriSummit Utilities Inc.

Dunleavy, in a statement, said Dahlstrom is “well-qualified, experienced, knowledgeable, and has the temperament to do the job of Lieutenant Governor well.”
