A magnitude 6.9 earthquake struck off the coast of Alaska early Monday in what the Alaska Earthquake Center called an aftershock of a 8.2 quake from late July.

Officials are aiming to make the first wave of dividend payments to Alaska residents the week of Oct. 11, a Department of Revenue spokesperson said.

The Alaska Senate has approved a roughly $1,100 dividend on the last day of a special session.

Alaska lawmakers have yet to agree on a dividend payout to residents this year though legislative leaders say they hope to do so by the end of this special session, which is Tuesday.

Gov. Mike Dunleavy, who has been at odds with the Biden administration on some oil and gas and forestry issues, in a social media post Wednesday called the planned review a “politically motivated stunt” and short sighted.

The shooting happened outside of a general store in Anchor Point when trooper Bruce Brueggeman attempted to serve an arrest warrant to Bret Herrick, 60.

An assistant attorney general in Alaska identified by a news outlet as the person behind a social media account that posted racist and antisemitic comments no longer works for the state Department of Law.

Canada announced Monday it will begin letting fully vaccinated U.S. citizens into Canada on Aug. 9, and those from the rest of the world on Sept. 7.

The Anchorage Democrat said he hoped to make a decision by the end of this summer. The primary is in August 2022.
