The current rate of deaths, as of Thursday, October 29, stands at 77, according to the Alaska Department of Health and Human Services. The Section of Epidemiology’s report does not yet offer details with regards to the most-recent ten fatalities.

Thiessen: “We are in what I like to call the ‘silly season,’ which is the final stages of a Presidential election. Everything people have something to say about, comments, it’s the kind of season where once it’s over, everybody forgets what everybody promised to do. You aren’t held to your promises.”

According to a release from the Trust, this grant to Akeela is a part of the their work to increase access to mental health and addiction services for its beneficiaries. Trust staff say they are working with partners like Akeela to help ensure beneficiaries have timely access to a full continuum of effective addiction interventions and treatment.

The Alaska Department of Fish and Game and the United States Forest Service announce an early closure to the moose hunting season in that portion of Game Management Unit 5(A) east of the Dangerous River, but not including Nunatak Bench. The hunt in this area is managed under joint state and federal registration permit RM061.

An executive session was held with the Seward City Council on Monday with City Manager Scott Meszaros to discuss the city manager’s performance. Following the executive session, the council voted to terminate Meszaros’ employment with the city, effective immediately, by a vote of 5 to 2.

The vehicle making the traffic stop was described as a 2005-2010 black Dodge Charger with dark tinted windows and the newer Alaska Northern Lights license plates.  The vehicle reportedly had red and blue lights, possibly in the dashboard area.  One male was described as a Hispanic male with a beard, aged mid-30s, and the other was a white male with longer sandy-brown hair, age mid-30s.
