Tlingit & Haida Sign Agreement For Indigenous Guardians Program

The five-year agreement awards up to $300,000 of federal funding and, through collaboration, will support a variety of projects and programs connecting community-led indigenous stewardship, technical knowledge, conservation science and natural resource management of the national forest system and adjacent lands throughout Southeast Alaska.

If the Crayola crayon box-esque array of colors in the trees and the brisk mornings are not evidence enough that Fall has officially hit the Kenai, this weekend will give the City of Kenai an opportunity to solidify the area’s seasonal spirit with their 5th Annual Fall Pumpkin Festival. It takes place on Saturday, October 10 from 11:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m.

Kenai Peninsula Borough Mayor Charlie Pierce “Honored” To Serve As Mayor For Next Term

With only around 3,500 absentee ballots yet to be counted, Kenai Peninsula Borough Mayor Charlie Pierce has confidently declared victory in Tuesday’s municipal election. He received 5,777 votes compared to Linda Farnsworth-Hutchings’ 3,531 votes. At around 59% of the votes counted going towards Mayor Pierce, only a major statistical shift in the absentee ballots could impact that result.
