Coast Guard Air Station Kodiak C-130 Hercules aircraft crew deployed from the air station’s Forward Operating Location in Kotzebue. They flew over Mount Kelly to locate the hunters and assess the weather ahead of an MH-60 Jayhawk crew deployed from Forward Operating Location Kotzebue to pick up the stranded hunters.

Judge Lance Joanis ruled this week that the restraining order against the city be replaced by a preliminary injunction if the non-profit Friends of Jesse Lee Home post an additional security bond of over $500,000 by September 30.

The Kenai Peninsula saw five new reported cases during that period: three cases are Kenai residents, two are Soldotna residents, and one is a Seward resident.

On Tuesday, recordings were released by the Environmental Investigation Agency where people hired to pose as potential investors in the Pebble Project recorded calls with Pebble officials in August and September of this year. They posed Senators Lisa Murkowski and Dan Sullivan being harmless in posing a risk to the project, as they were said to only voice opposition when the sentiment does not mean much of consequence.

Amendment 1 addresses scope, funding, and scheduling issues on various projects around the state, including new projects and the projects from the Community Transportation Program 2020 award cycle.

The Soldotna City Council approved a resolution to allot funds as part of Soldotna’s Phase II of CARES Act spending, including grants of up to $1,500 for qualifying Soldotna households. Also, direct relief is included for groups that provide aid to those in-need. Included are specific individual grants to the Kenai Peninsula Food Bank, Love INC, and Peninsula Community Health Services.

To aid in suicide prevention efforts, the 2020 GCI Suicide Prevention Fund and funds from GCI Gives have been granted to 15 suicide prevention programs totaling $170,000.
