Citing a request first made by Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross and Census Bureau Director Steven Dillingham to extend the deadlines for apportionment to April 30 and redistricting to July 31, the senators underscored the need to give the Census Bureau adequate time to collect and report an accurate count following delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The state had five active cases in 2019. Alaska initiated three new criminal human trafficking cases in 2019, ranking the state 15th in the nation for the number of new cases. In 2019, federal courts convicted one defendant in a criminal human trafficking case, ranking Alaska 43rd in the nation for number of defendants convicted.

There are currently 2,596 active cases of COVID-19 among Alaska residents. 208 of those cases are residents of the Kenai Peninsula. Among those, 60 are in Soldotna, 45 in Seward, 41 in Kenai, and 33 in Homer.

This was the 30th annual Caring for the Kenai, an environmental contest that challenges high school students to answer the question: “What can I do, invent, create, or improve to better care for the environment on the Kenai Peninsula, or better prepare for a natural disaster?”

The resolution would amend the borough ‘s Coronavirus Relief Fund Spending Plan. The amended plan recommends the distribution of fund allocations to the municipalities within the borough of Homer, Kachemak City, Kenai, Seldovia, Seward, and Soldotna as sub-recipients of the relief funds distributed by the State of Alaska. The plan also addresses budget revisions necessary to achieve individual project outcomes.

The Soldotna City Council will be discussing an action memorandum to discuss eliminating library fees. It will be introduced during the City Council meeting on Wednesday, August 12.

AMHS revenues are significantly lower than expected due to the COVID-19 pandemic. As a result, it has become necessary to build the operating plan with minimal essential service to most communities. Some service gaps will still exist from vessel overhauls and layups as a result of available funding.

There are currently 2,594 active cases of COVID-19 among Alaska residents. 209 of those cases are residents of the Kenai Peninsula. Among those, 61 are in Soldotna, 47 in Seward, 39 in Kenai, and 34 in Homer.
