Similar to Primary Election Day on August 18, voters who wish to cast a ballot early will need to bring one form of identification to the early/absentee voting location. Voters may cast absentee ballots in four ways: in person, by mail, by fax, or by a special needs ballot.

Representative Gary Knopp died in a plane crash involving two aircraft on Friday. The collision took place approximately two miles northeast of Soldotna Airport this morning, near the Sterling Highway.

Surprise Creek remains the only trail still closed as a result of last year’s Swan Lake Fire. Trail crew members are working on the hundreds of downed trees on this trail.

Kenai Peninsula Borough Schools will allow parents and students the option of returning to fully-open schools on August 24, but students will notice at least one visible difference: masks for students and staff, when sufficient physical distancing is not possible.

Alaska’s syphilis outbreak is growing, with cases that more than doubled in 2019 to 2018. The Alaska Department of Health an Social Services HIV / STD Program said that this is the largest number of syphilis cases they have reported in a single year.

Pegge Erkeneff of the Kenai Peninsula Borough School District: “It makes no sense if we have low COVID cases in an entire region to not have our students that want to be at school, at school, or our staff at schools that can be working.”
