Dipnetting Season Has Opened On The Kenai

The dipnet season on the Kenai is currently July 10 through July 31 and requires a personal use fishery permit. The City of Kenai provides a number of services to support this fishery including parking and camping on the beaches, restrooms, trash collection, and a boat dock with a four ramp boat launch.

46 New COVID-19 Cases Among Residents, Including 7 Kenai Peninsula Cases

The Alaska Department of Health and Social Services, on Thursday, announced 49 new people with COVID-19 in Alaska. 46 are residents in 12 communities. Two are in Kenai, two are in Soldotna, one is in Homer, one is in Seward, and one is in Sterling. There are now 684 active cases of COVID-19 in Alaska, marking the 23rd consecutive day of increased active cases.

2020 Kenai Peninsula Fair Cancelled

The Kenai Peninsula Fair Board made the decision on Wednesday to cancel their 2020 fair due to rising COVID-19 numbers. In a release to the public, the board expressed their disappointment, but that their plan is to put in the work to create a great experience for the 2021 fair.

Borough Assembly Passes Second Amendment Ordinance

After being debated for several weeks, public testimony was heard by the Kenai Borough Assembly regarding Ordinance 2020-29 which aimed to designate the borough as a Second Amendment Sanctuary. The ordinance was ultimately approved on a 5 – 4 vote, but not before an amendment made changes to its language.
