A Cessna 180 with two passengers conducted an emergency landing on Thursday, July 2, landing southest of the Eielson Visitor Center in the Denali National Park and Preserve. The passengers were able to communicate with the Alaska Regional Communications Center via their satellite device. The passengers communicated that there were no injuries, and that they had equipment, food, and water to last several days.   

The Alaska Department of Health and Social Services conducted extensive contact tracing and determined that the only other person considered to be a close contact was a traveling companion. No one else aboard the vessel was found to have been in close contact with the passenger who tested positive.

The Alaska Department of Health and Social Services reported one new death related to COVID-19 and 75 new positive COVID-19 cases among residents during the combined numbers released on Saturday and Sunday. Two of the cases came from Seward and one was from Soldotna. The majority of the counts, 54, came from Anchorage.

The Kenai City Council unanimously approved amending grant funds for the amount allotted for sampling at the mouth of the Kenai River, which is required to build an adequate database for future modeling efforts and will be provided through a cooperative agreement with the Kenai Watershed Forum.

The City of Kenai committed the appropriation of matching funds along with the Alaska Department of Transportation to construct a pedestrian and bicycle path from the Kenai Spur Highway to Beaver Loop along Bridge Access Road.

Governor Mike Dunleavy told KSRM News on Tuesday that he does not yet have advice for Alaskans who are no longer protected from evictions and foreclosures. The legislation protecting renters expired at the end of the day on June 30.
