Five New COVID-19 Cases In Kenai Peninsula

The Alaska Department of Health and Social Services reported eleven new positive COVID-19 cases in their Friday update, including five in the Kenai Peninsula Borough. Two cases are out of Homer, one out of Anchor Point, one from Nikiski, and one from a location in the borough with fewer than 1,000 residents.

Alaska Congressman Don Young told KSRM on Thursday that he will not be voting for another COVID-19 stimulus measure. He expressed his ultimate disappointment in how the Federal CARES Act was crafted and ultimately executed, culminating in his lack of support for subsequent measures crafted by Congress.

With the summer season peeking its head into the Kenai and landscaping projects underway, Homer Electric Association is reminding the public not to take it upon themselves to remove any trees in danger of hitting the energized power lines. They report seeing an increase in the number of outages related to members cutting trees resulting in fallen trees into energized power lines in the last month.
