The Alaska Department of Health and Social Services reported 18 new positive COVID-19 cases in their Wednesday update, including six in the Kenai Peninsula Borough. Four cases are out of Homer, one out of Soldotna, and one from an area of the Kenai borough with a population below 1,000.

Principal Eric Pederson of Paul Banks Elementary School in Homer has been designated as the Alaska National Distinguished Principal for 2020. The honor comes from the Alaska Association of Elementary School Principals.

The Boys and Girls Clubs of the Kenai Peninsula is currently working with the Kenai Peninsula Borough School District to create a safe and responsible plan for opening to the youth in our community.

The Chairman of the Republican Party in District 30, the district served by Representative Gary Knopp, is asking that Knopp not run for re-election as a Republican.

Together, the two offices shared resources and fielded questions regarding the prevention of Alaskans from falling victim to scams and other schemes attempting to exploit the COVID-19 pandemic.

Volunteer season for Stream Watch kicks off Monday, June 1.  Dedicated volunteers of all ages and interests receive all of the training and supplies, including volunteer campsites, to share information on river protection while completing hands-on projects on the Kasilof, Kenai, and Russian Rivers.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 93rd running of the Mount Marathon Race will not be held in 2020, the race committee decided on May 29. The committee had previously postponed its traditional date of July 4 and was considering an alternate date of September 6.

The Alaska Department of Health and Social Services reported seven new positive COVID-19 cases in their Monday update, including four in the Kenai Peninsula Borough. One case is out of Kenai, one out of Homer, while two cases are listed as “other” locations in the borough.  For privacy reasons, communities under 1,000 residents are not specified in their positive cases.

Three cases are in Kenai, two in Homer, one in Soldotna, one in Anchor Point, one listed as the Kenai Peninsula Borough, 12 in Anchorage, four in Wasilla, and three in Eagle River.
