The Anton Anderson Memorial Tunnel, also known as the Whittier Tunnel, is closed until further notice due to a rock fall hazard inside the tunnel. The tunnel was closed at 1 pm today.

Motorists are encouraged to take an alternate route as a serious two vehicle accident is impeding traffic on the Kenai Spur Highway near Kenai Central High School at 2:15pm Thursday.

A single vehicle accident started a small brush fire at 2:30 p.m. this afternoon on Marathon Road, between Kenai and Nikiski. The brush fire has been contained and extinguished. The accident resulted in no injuries.

On Friday, at 9:36pm, Alaska State Troopers in Anchor Point attempted to stop a Honda motorcycle on the Sterling Hwy near mile 155.  The motorcycle failed to yield to Troopers attempts to stop it and it accelerated to speeds over 120 MPH while passing in a no passing zone.  Troopers terminated the pursuit for public safety after four miles.  Troopers continued to travel northbound and located the motorcycle near mile 144.  The driver was not located and fled on foot.  Troopers developed a suspect during the pursuit and on Saturday, Troopers confirmed the identity of the motorcycle rider as  Zachariah “Bluu” Nemeyer, age 29, of Soldotna.  Nemeyer is known to go by the alias “Bluu” and has frequented the Anchor Point area in the recent weeks.  At the time of the pursuit Nemeyer had an outstanding felony warrant for his arrest out of Soldotna AST for MICS 4, DWLR and NVOL.  Nemeyer’s driver’s license is revoked out of Hawaii.  On Tuesday, a warrant was issued by the Homer Court for Nemeyer’s arrest on the charges of failure to stop at the direction of a peace officer in the 1st degree, reckless driving and driving while license revoked with bail set…
