Authorities with Western Emergency Services and the Alaska State Troopers on Tuesday afternoon were dispatched to a structure fire in Ninilchik with one resident entrapped in the basement.

The unidentified resident was able to successfully escape the structure with only minor injuries before several Western Emergency Services apparatus and ambulances arrived on the scene to control the blaze. The fully involved structure fire ignited a wildland fire in the area resulting in a ground and air response from the Alaska Department of Natural Resources – Division of Forestry.
In addition, Central Emergency Services in Soldotna were requested to provide mutual aid with a tanker and several firefighters.

The original fire was considered a total loss, however all other structures in the area were protected and both fires were extinguished with no injuries to fire personnel.
