High school basketball, hockey and large school wrestling fill the sports schedule, as area schools return for the new semester.
Hockey
The Kenai Kardinals and Soldotna Stars finally face-off in North Star Conference hockey action on Thursday, January 8th at the Soldotna Regional Sports Complex.
The Kards and Stars continue non-conference contests on Friday and Saturday; Kenai battles Chugiak on Friday and SoHi takes-on Chugiak on Saturday.

Wrestling
Kenai and Soldotna continue large school wrestling with one month remaining until the 4A state championships. Two weeks remain in the regular season and the conference tournament will be hosted by Soldotna High on January 30-31.
The Kardinals and Stars travel to Colony for invitational wrestling on Friday and Saturday, January 9-10.
Cross Country Ski
In a search for ski-able snow, area ski teams will travel to Valdez for the Valdez Invitational Ski Meet on Friday and Saturday, January 9-10.
Basketball
A full slate of basketball includes tournament play for the Kardinal boys and Soldotna girls and boys.
The Kardinals boys will play in the Dimond Tournament on Thursday through Saturday, January 8-10.
The SoHi teams will play in the Monroe Tournament on Thursday through Saturday, January 8-10.
Nikiski hosts Homer on Saturday in Southcentral Conference play.
