Baseball Conference Tournament Opens With a Pair of SoHi Victories

The 2016 Southcentral Conference Baseball Tournament, hosted by Kenai Central High School, opened play on Thursday with games played at the Kenai Little League field and at Oilers Park.

The Kenai Kardinal boys fell in first round action to Colony 6-2; the Soldotna Stars recorded a pair of victories, defeating both Houston and Colony.

 

Kenai 2 – Colony 6  First Round Game

Kenai’s Paul Steffensen scored an early run for Kenai; however, the Kardinals allow three runs in the third for a 4-1 lead. enroute to a 6-2 Knight victory.  Steffensen also scored Kenai’s second run and accounted for both of the Kardinals hits.

SoHi 10 -Houston 0  First Round Game

SoHi shutout Houston 10-0 in the tournament’s first round, advancing the Stars to a winner’s bracket contest against Colony on Thursday night.

SoHi 10 – Colony 7  Winner’s Bracket Game

The Stars scored five runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to erase a Colony lead, as the Stars downed the Knights 10-7 in the second round, winner’s bracket game.

Other First Round Games

Wasilla 2 – Kodiak 0

Homer 5 – Palmer 4

Wasilla 17 – Homer 0

Wasilla will play Soldotna in the championship game on Friday at 7:00 p.m.at Oilers Park.

Kenai faces Houston at Oilers Park and Palmer faces Kodiak at Kenai LL in elimination games are Friday at 10:00 a.m.  The winner’s stay alive in the double-elimination tournament.
