Baseball Recaps: Stars Jump Kards In NLC Standings

Homer 12, Kenai 7
Kenai outhit Homer but couldn’t overcome eight errors in a 12-7 conference loss. Homer scored three unearned runs in the first and blew the game open with a six-run sixth, capped by Cohen Boyd’s 3-RBI triple.

 

Homer capitalized on the Kardinals’ errors with timely hitting, scoring 9 of their 12 runs with two outs.

 

Daniel Steffensen led Kenai with a 3-for-5 day, including a solo home run. Jacob Joanis added two hits and two RBIs. Braden Smith pitched 5.2 innings, allowing three earned runs. Despite a late rally, Kenai fell short.

 

Saturday, May 10

Soldotna 7, Kenai 4
Soldotna used a five-run third inning and strong relief pitching to top Kenai 7-4. Matthew Schilling’s speed helped extend the rally, while Tucker Blough went 2-for-2 with two RBIs. SoHi pitchers combined for 15 strikeouts, including six from closer Trenton Ohnemus, who threw two scoreless innings.

 

Kenai starter Jacob Joanis allowed just two earned runs but was hurt by six team errors. Everett Chamberlain scored twice for the Kards.

 

With the win, the Stars improve to 3-1  and second place in Northern Lights Conference play. The Kardinals fall to 2-3 in the NLC and drop to fifth place.
