The final week of the high school basketball regular season features multiple home games, Senior Nights, and conference seeding implications throughout the central peninsula.
3A Basketball: Nikiski & Kenai
The Nikiski Bulldogs and Kenai Kardinals tip-off on Tuesday, February 28th with Peninsula Conference games at Nikiski High School. The boys varsity game is set for 6 p.m. with Nikiski’s Boys Senior Night; the girls varsity is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
In the 3A Peninsula Boys standings, Nikiski (1-5) stands in 5th place in the five-team conference; the Kenai boys own a 4-1 conference record and stand in 2nd place. In the 3A Peninsula Girls standings, Nikiski (1-5) stands in 5th place in the five-team conference; the Kenai girls stand in 3rd place with a 2-3 record. Grace Christian tops both conference standings with unbeaten conference records and will host the 3A Peninsula Conference Tournament March 9-11.
4A Basketball: Soldotna
The SoHi Stars will host the Palmer Moose in Northern Lights Conference basketball on Saturday, March 4th to close the regular season. The Lady Stars stand at 3-6 in NLC play with Palmer owning a 1-7 record. On the boys side, the SoHi boys, with a victory over Palmer last weekend, own a 2-7 NLC record while Palmer stands at 0-8. SoHi and Palmer, both girls and boys, are battling for 4th place in the six-team NLC. Kodiak will host the 4A Northern Lights Conference Tournament March 9-11.
1A Peninsula Conference: Cook Inlet Academy
The CIA basketball teams await the release of the brackets for the 1A Peninsula Conference Basketball Tournament. The Eagles finished regular season play and will begin tournament play at Lumen Christi on Thursday, March 2nd. The tournament will qualify two girls and two boys teams to the ASAA 1A State Basketball Championships. Brackets will be posted when released on Tuesday, February 28th.
