Basketball Season Tips-off With Local Tournaments

The high school basketball season opened for central peninsula teams with the 2015 Kenai River Challenge Girls Basketball Tournament and the 2015 SoHi Al Howard/Powerade Boys Tip-off Tournament opening play on Thursday.

 

Kenai River Challenge

The Kenai River Challenge features a Peninsula vs Alaska, round-robin format with the Nikiski Bulldogs, SoHi Stars and host Kenai Kardinals girls teams matched against the Houston Hawks, Juneau Douglas Crimson Bears and South Anchorage Wolverines.

Thursday, December 17th

South 42 – Nikiski 40:  Bulldogs rally from down nine to take last shot for the win.

Juneau 44 – SoHi 41:  Juneau hits five straight free throws to hold-off Stars. SoHi’s Lindsay Wong scores 14 points.

KCHS 49 – Houston 25:  Kenai holds Houston scoreless for 11 minutes in first half en-route-to a commanding victory.

Friday, December 18th

SoHi 35 – Houston 38: Stars outscored 16-2 in 4th quarter

Nikiski 29 – Juneau 40

Kenai 47 – South53: Kards lead by eleven in first half; South rallys in third quarter.

Saturday, December 19th

SoHi 36 – South 53

Nikiski 49 – Houston 35

KCHS 28 – Juneau 35

 

SoHi Tipoff Boys Tournament

The SoHi Al Howard/Powerade Boys Tip-off Tournament will feature peninsula teams Homer Mariners, Seldovia Sea Otters, Kenai Kardinals and host Soldotna Stars; as well as, the Dimond Lynx, and Houston Hawks in three days of basketball competition.

KCHS 86 – Seldovia 43: Kenai overpowers reigning 2A champion

Houston 60 – Homer 54: Hawks lead throughout for win over conference opponent.

Dimond 58 – SoHi 34: Dimond opens ten point lead in first quarter.

Friday, December 18th

Homer 45 -Seldovia 48

KCHS 43 -Dimond 60:  Dimond outscores Kenai 20-3 in 4th Quarter

SoHi 55 – Houston 63:  Hawks extended one point third quarter lead for 8-point win.

Saturday, December 19th
