The high school basketball season opened for central peninsula teams with the 2015 Kenai River Challenge Girls Basketball Tournament and the 2015 SoHi Al Howard/Powerade Boys Tip-off Tournament opening play on Thursday.
Kenai River Challenge
The Kenai River Challenge features a Peninsula vs Alaska, round-robin format with the Nikiski Bulldogs, SoHi Stars and host Kenai Kardinals girls teams matched against the Houston Hawks, Juneau Douglas Crimson Bears and South Anchorage Wolverines.

Juneau 44 – SoHi 41: Juneau hits five straight free throws to hold-off Stars. SoHi’s Lindsay Wong scores 14 points.
KCHS 49 – Houston 25: Kenai holds Houston scoreless for 11 minutes in first half en-route-to a commanding victory.

The SoHi Al Howard/Powerade Boys Tip-off Tournament will feature peninsula teams Homer Mariners, Seldovia Sea Otters, Kenai Kardinals and host Soldotna Stars; as well as, the Dimond Lynx, and Houston Hawks in three days of basketball competition.
