Basketball Tournaments Send Teams On The Road For The Holidays

Spending the holidays playing basketball in exotic locations is a reality for four central peninsula teams with the Nikiski Bulldog girls and boys off to the isle of Kodiak; the Kenai girls travel to the south of Alaska for games in Ketchikan; and the SoHi boys head to the beach for tournament play in San Diego.

 

51st Annual Joe Floyd Basketball Tournament in Kodiak

The Nikiski girls and boys opened three days of basketball action in the round-robin format Joe Floyd Tournament with first-round contests on Wednesday, December 27th at the Kodiak gym.

Wednesday’s Schedule & Game Results:

Lathrop 57 -Nikiski Boys 36

Nikiski Girls 46 – Kodiak 9

…The Bulldog girls lead 16-0 after the first quarter and 31-0 at the half.  Bethany Carsten lead the way with 12 points and Kelsey Clark added 10 points.  Nikiski hit five three-point baskets.

Thursday’s Schedule:

Nikiski Girls 70 – Eagle River 37

Nikiski Boys 42 – Cottage Grove, Oregon 63

Friday’s Schedule:

Nikiski Girls  48 – Lathrop 52

Nikiski Boys 57 – Kodiak 61

 

San Diego Surf ‘N Slam Tournament in San Diego, California

The Soldotna Stars boys basketball team travels to San Diego, California for the 27th Annual Surf ‘N Slam San Diego Hoop Classic with the Stars first game scheduled for Wednesday, December 27th.

All “Slam Division” games will be played at Mission Bay High School.

Wednesday Game Final:  Roosevelt 73 – SoHi 45

Thursday Game Final: SoHi 54 – Friends 47

Saturday Game Final: SoHi 36 – Lake Stevens, Washington 72

 

 

2017 Clarke Cochrane Christmas Classic in Ketchikan

The Kenai Kardinal girls, 3-0 on the season and champions of the 2017 Kenai River Challenge, travel to Ketchikan for the 2017 Clarke Cochrane Christmas Classic basketball tournament.

The Kardinal girls opened play on Thursday, December 28th with a first-round game against the host Ketchikan Kings.

Thursday Game Score:

Kenai Girls 36 – Ketchikan 55

Friday Game Schedule:

Kenai 39 – Navajo Prep 49

Saturday Game Schedule:

Kenai Girls 55 – Wrangell 46

Brooke Satathite lead Kenai with 31 points.  Kenai finishes tournament play with a 1-2 record.
