Basketball Weekend Featured Conference & Non-Conference Contests

A full basketball weekend for central peninsula basketball teams with the Nikiski Bulldogs traveling to the Valley and Anchorage for Southcentral Conference contests; the Kenai Kardinals on the road Saturday to Palmer for Northern Lights Conference games; and the SoHi Boys playing in the Alaska Prep Shootout at Dimond High School with the SoHi girls staying home to host Dimond on Saturday.

 

Nikiski vs Southcentral Conference

The Nikiski Bulldog girls and boys teams recorded a pair of sweeps to open Southcentral Conference games with victories over Houston and Joe Redington.

The Bulldog girls suffered only their second loss of the year falling to Anchorage Christian School; the Bulldog boys also dropped Saturday’s game at the Lions.

Saturday, January 13

Nikiski Girls 48  – ACS 71 

The Bulldog girls got a measure of the SCC’s best in a 71-48 defeat at the hands of ACS.  Nikiski’s Bethany Carstens lead the way with 12 points.  The Lions are unbeaten on the season and finished with five players in double-digit scoring.

Nikiski Boys 39 – ACS 88

The Bulldog boys were over-powered by the ACS Lions 88-39 to close a successful 2-1 weekend for the Bulldog boys.  Jace Kornstad scored 18 points for Nikiski.

Friday, January 12

Nikiski Girls 62 – Joe Redington 28   Bethany Carstens scored 20 points for Bulldogs.

Nikiski Boys 54 – Joe Redington 44  Ian Johnson scored 21 for Bulldogs.

Thursday, January 11

Nikiski Girls 59 – Houston 22   Bethany Carstenslead Bulldogs with 18 points.

Nikiski Boys 51 – Houston 28  Cody Handley scored 18 points for Nikiski.

Saturday, January 13      SoHi 47 – Juneau 48  4th Place Game

The Stars trailed by 12 to start the fourth quarter; then rallied to a buzzer-beater finish in a 48-47 loss to Juneau in the tournament’s 4th Place game.  SoHi battle to lead the game 47-45 late in the fourth only to have Juneau score with .8 seconds remaining, tying the game and Juneau’s Luke Mallinger converts the three-point play with a freethrow to down SoHi 48-47.   Jersey Truesdall lead the Stars with 29 points.

SoHi Girls vs Dimond @ SoHi

The SoHi Girls were dominated by the Dimond Lynx 71-22 on Saturday.  Dimond’s Alysaa Pili scored 26 points.  Aliann Schmidt lead the Stars with 12 points.

 

Kenai @ Palmer  Northern Lights Conference

 

Kenai Girls 45 – Palmer 50

The Kenai girls lead 14-5 after one quarter and 23-19 at the half.  Palmer rallied with 17 points in the third for a 36-35 Moose lead. Elizabeth Hansen lead the Kardinal girls with 14 points.

Kenai Boys 31 – Palmer 54

The Kardinal offense lead by Luke Beiser’s 13 points was no match for the guard power of the Palmer Moose as Palmer downed Kenai 54-31.  Palmer’s guards combined for seven three-pointers.
