A full weekend of high school basketball includes the Kenai Kardinals boys competing at the Bethel Invitational Basketball Tournament, the SoHi boys and girls in the Valley for conference games and the Nikiski Bulldogs hosting Monroe Catholic in 3A basketball.
Kenai @ Bethel Basketball Tournament
The Kenai Kardinals boys basketball team battles in the four-team, round robin Donlin Gold Invitational in Bethel, Alaska. Teams include: Boys– Kenai, Sitka, Nome and Bethel; Girls– Newhalen, Sitka, Nome and Bethel.
Thursday’s Boys Game Schedule
Sitka 48 – Kenai Boys 42
Kenai lead 25-8 after the first quarter and lead into the late stages of the fourth quarter before a 10-2 run by the Wolves gave Sitka a 48-42 victory.

Saturday Boys Game Schedule
Kenai Boys 67 – Nome 39
Marshall Vest, Garrett Fitt and Josh Jackman each scored 12 points in the 67-39 win over Nome.
Kenai finished tournament play with a 1-2 overall record.

The Stars managed only two free throws and two points in the fourth quarter, falling to the Colony Knights in Northern Lights Conference play. Derek Evans scored 17 points for the Stars.

Nikiski Girls 35 – Monroe 28
The Nikiski girls outscored Monroe 15-4 in the final quarter for a 35-28 victory. Kelsey Clark lead Nikiski with 15 points.
Nikiski Boys 58 – Monroe Catholic 57
The Bulldog boys Ian Johnson scored with eight seconds remaining to push the Bulldogs past the Monroe Rams 58-57. Nikiski trailed by four after three quarters. Ian Johnson and Hunter Holloway each scored 15 points for Nikiski. The Rams are the 2014 3A state runner-up and won three-straight 3A state championships from 2012-2014.
