The Region III Swimming and Diving Championships again crown both the girls and boys teams from Kodiak High School as region champions. The Kodiak boys win their sixth, consecutive team title; the Bears girls raced to an eighth, straight region championship.
Region III Swimming & Diving Highlights
Kodiak’s Lindquist’s (brother and sister, Talon and Tahna) collected four region individual titles and set new Region III records in each event.
In all, six new Region III records were set; all by Kodiak swimmers. Talon Lindquist: 200 IM and 100 backstroke; Tahna Lindquist: 200 IM and 500 Freestyle; Ila Hughes, 50 Freestyle and Kodiak boys 200 Medley Relay.
Soldotna & Kenai Highlights
The Soldotna Stars boys finished second in the team scoring and the SoHi girls third in the girls team results.
For the local girls, SoHi’s Megan English raced to victories in both the 100 Butterfly and the 100 Backstroke. SoHi’s Alex Weeks recorded a second place in the 50 Freestyle and a second in the 100 Freestyle. The SoHi girls placed second in the 400 Freestyle Relay.
In the boys events, Soldotna’s David Hall won the 50 Freestyle and finished second in the 100 Freestyle. SoHi’s Cody Watkins raced to a second in the 50 Freestyle and 100 Butterfly. SoHi’s Jacob Creglow finished second in the 100 Breaststroke and Jacob Hall, second in the 500 Freeestyle. SoHi added a pair of runner-up finishes in the 200 Freestyle and 400 Freestyle Relays.
Seventeen members of the SoHi swim team advance to the state championships. Three Kenai Kardinal swimmers also advance to state swim championships.
State Swimming & Diving
The region championships, held in four, different regional sites, serve as qualifiers for the upcoming 2014 ASAA State Swimming and Diving Championships next weekend at the Bartlett High Pool in Anchorage. In individual events, the top swimmer/diver in each regional advance to state, along with next 12 fastest times/scores in the state. For relays, the region champions advance along with the next fastest four relay teams statewide.
