Beaver Loop Improvement Meeting Sees Large Community Response

The State Department of Transportation and Public Works put on a public meeting to hear Kenai residents opinions about the Beaver Loop Improvement design.

Kenai City Manager Rick Koch said there was great turnout.

Koch: “I’m really impressed with these meetings here with the citizens of Kenai and around Kenai, very involved, knowledgeable, and even thought there may be absolutely opposing opinions in the room very cordial. It was a good meeting last night we probably had 60 people there.”

He said the project is funded but the state is looking for input from the public on what they would like in the design.

Koch: “The location of the pedestrian pathway was spoke to last night should it be on the north side of the road should it be on the south side of the road, and there were opinions generated on each side of that. I recall one individual said it should be on the north side of the road because then in the spring the sun would hit that earlier then if it was on the other side of the road and it would thaw and the snow would be gone earlier.”

Public comment is open on the project until June 13 on the state’s website.
