According to a state Department of Health and Social Services report, bed bugs are on the rise in Alaska.
Anchorage recorded 68 bed bug complaints in 2013 which was down from 84 in 2012 however complaints have steadily risen since 2007 when there was just one complaint.
Travelers should check for signs on bedding like live bed bugs, bed bug excrement, and molted exoskeletons in order to prevent exposure and expedite intervention.
The epidemiology report also stated that bed bugs can double in population every 16 days if not properly addressed.
Pied Piper Pest Control manager Ken Perry says he has taken on bed bugs in Anchorage since 1987 but only recently has dealt with high rates.
