The championship of the Bethel Donlin Gold Invitational Basketball Tournament was decided in the final games of the tournament on Saturday with the Bethel Warriors defeating Nikiski for the girls and boys titles.
Bethel Girls 55 – Nikiski 49
The Nikiski girls advanced to Saturday’s game with a 2-0 tournament record and a shot at the championship. Bethel also entered the final game with a 2-0 record on its home court.
The Bethel girls defeated Nikiski 55-49. Kailey Stynsberg scored 16 points for the Bulldogs; Ashlynne Playle added 12points. Playle and Maggie Grenier were selected to the all-tournament team.
Bethel 68 – Nikiski 54
The Bethel boys defeated Nikiski 68-54 for the boys championship at the Bethel Donlin Gold Invitational Basketball Tournament.
Seth Payne led Nikiski with 15 points as the Bulldogs again showed balanced scoring Charlie Chamberlain scoring 13, Braeden Porter added 12, Drew Handley added 11. Drew Handley was selected to the all-tournament team for the Nikiski boys.
