The three-day, bracketed Big Lake Lions Classic hockey tournament closed-out competition on Saturday at the Big Lake Arena in Houston. The tournament featured Kenai and Soldotna, along with Houston, Colony, Palmer Wasilla, Lathrop and East Anchorage.
SoHi Hockey Game Results
The Soldotna Stars defeated first-round opponent Lathrop High from Fairbanks 4-3 in overtime. Ethan Brown scored the game-winner with only 1:20 remaining in the overtime.
SoHi fell to Colony 5-1 on Friday with Trevor Witthus scoring SoHi’s only goal and goalie Billy Yoder recording 58 saves.
The Stars dropped an 8-0 decision Saturday to Wasilla.
Kenai Hockey Game Results
The Kenai Kardinals opened with Palmer and fell to the Moose 8-1. A lone goal for Tristan Bulot for Kenai in the third period.
Kenai fell 7-4 to Houston on Friday with Kardinal goals scored by Levi Mese, Ian Mercado, Jacob O’Brien and Tyler Lingafelt.
The Kards scored three, third-period goals for a 6-5 victory over Lathrop on Saturday.
Jake O’Brien, Tristen Bulot and Levi Mese each scored twice for the Kardinals, Mese’s goals coming in the third period for the Kenai win.
