A bill aimed at addressing Alaska’s increasing heroin problem is working its way through the legislature.
Juneau Representative Cathy Munoz…
Rep. Munoz (R-District 34): “SB 23 is a bill that would provide immunity and availability of an anti-overdose drug to an individual who was experiencing an overdose.”
The legislation recently passed through the House Judiciary Committee unanimously and is headed to the House Floor.
Rep. Munoz (R-District 34): “It was one of the few bills that was allowed to continue given the recent decision by the Speaker of the House to pull all issues off the calendar that are not related to the budget.”
SB 23 would make Naloxone, a medication that absorbs the affects of overdoses, available to be distributed over the counter at pharmacies and by trained agencies.
Munoz says she is confident it will pass the legislature.
