A bill to raise fees for hunting, fishing, and trapping in Alaska passed the House 33-7 Wednesday.
Representative Dave Talerico’s House Bill 137 would increase sporting license and tag fees for residents and nonresidents, along with changing the minimum age for a licence to 18 instead of 16.
The legislation would also create a $20 fish and wildlife decal, the proceeds of which would go to conservation programs.
Lawmakers amended the bill to allow developmentally disabled individuals to have someone else hunt and fish for them.
Democrats and those who voted no reasoned that the state was not looking at other revenues and just increasing fees.
The Senate is now set to consider HB 137.
