Today during a joint Kenai/Soldotna chamber luncheon, gubernatorial candidate Bill Walker spoke to the audience about where he stands on many of the issues Alaska is currently facing.
During Walker’s speech he stressed that he would like to see the Board of Fish meeting on the Peninsula in the future as so many people that are involved in those discussions live and fish on the Kenai River.
Walker: “I think you would have a better attendance and I think that you would have more people, not necessarily more testimony maybe there would be but people observing and people being able to be part of the process. I think that when you are making a decision that would impact someone in that region, if they can have those hearings and those discussions in that region, that’s by far the best.”
He also touched on the fact that he would like to see more renewable energy sources being utilized across Alaska.
Walker: “Obviously we’re the largest state so we’re not once size fits all so some areas have geothermal, some areas might be sitting on a small pocket of gas but what a shame they’re burning diesel while they’re sitting on top of gas but we really need to find that out and step up and do what they’ve already done in some parts of Alaska.”
