The National Weather Service in Anchorage has issued a high wind watch in effect for the Turnagain Arm area from early Wednesday into early Thursday morning as well as a blizzard watch for the Southern Peninsula.
We spoke with Meterologist Bill Ludwig who said Homer can expect some high winds and blowing snow.
Ludwig: “Southern Kenai Peninsula around Homer especially up there on the bluff there’s going to be a lot quite a bit of cold air coming in on the backside of this low late Thursday night into Friday there is a possibility they could get some pretty decent snow and blowing snow, could get kind of breezy.”
Winds from the East are expected to reach 45-60 mph with possible gusts of 75 mph in Turnagain Arm tonight.
Winds should rapidly increase tonight and peak around midnight on Wednesday into Thursday before diminishing in intensity Thursday afternoon.
Travel may difficult from the Peninsula into Turnagain Arm with risk of blown down trees and loose debris.
People living in this area or planning to travel in this area over the next dew days are encouraged to closely monitor the weather situation to avoid damage to vehicles and property.
