The Cosmopolitan Unit near Anchor Point has been a oil and gas exploration hub since the 1960’s.
Burgess: “The first well was drilled by Pennzoil in 1967, oil was discovered there. Arco, ConocoPhillips, and Pioneer have all had a play in this, the one thing they didn’t do that BlueCrest did was drill a vertical well through the heart of this formation, they missed several pay zones that are existing.”
BlueCrest Energy’s Health, Safety, and Environmental Manager Larry Burgess said a 151 jack-up rig will arrive this fall.
Burgess: “This will help determine how far down the structure goes to the south and will also help determine how we’re going to drill these wells and in what order. There will be approximately 20 wells from shore, all oil. Ten producers and ten water production wells.”
He added that currently they are in the preliminary design phase but have offshore plans that are partnered with WestPac.
Burgess: “Right now we have plans for two offshore platforms, they’re almost identical to the Fury Monopod, very low profile, barely visible from shore, unmanned, fully automatic, and gas only, no oil. And that will be brought to shore via subsea pipeline and processed in our processing facility onshore and sent to ENSTAR.”
BlueCrest’s plans focus on oil production, according to Burgess, but if WestPac changes plans BlueCrest may step in to continue forward with those plans.
Burgess said that once in full production their onshore oil facilities are expected to produce over 17,000 barrels a day.
