Due to the long process and debate over whether to keep the Skyview pool opened this year, the board of education has decided to review all district pools.
Kenai Peninsula School District Superintendent Dr. Steve Atwater said the board will delve into the current ways the pools are managed.
Atwater: “The board is looking at one of it’s goals for next year is to be able to examine the costs of pools throughout the whole school district and do an analysis of how we approach the whole funding of pools and the charging of fees and that kind of thing so the board will be doing a review or sort of an analysis of swimming pools across the school district not just the Skyview pool.”
He said they will likely look into raising user fees but will also explore other options.
Atwater: “I think we’re looking at different ways to attract more customers if that’s the right way to say it, to get a larger user group we don’t have enough people to really pay for themselves so we’re looking at ways to entice people to use the pool more often maybe make it easier, looking to see if there are any road blocks that are preventing people from using it, perhaps having a pool pass be usable at more than one location that sort of thing.”
Atwater also said that the funding that was going to be provided by the City of Soldotna for the Skyview pool was turned down.
