At last week’s Board of Game meeting members voted to prohibit the use of remote-controlled aircraft used to spot moose or other game targets.

 

Ted Spraker of Soldotna, the Board’s chairman, explained that the topic arose as a way to head off a potential problem.

Spraker: “And the other part that we were concerned about, we were shown a video of a person in Alaska directing a bear’s movement using one of these drones and it’s easy to see how a person could use these to go out and spot a bear or moose and actually drive it right back to you.”

 

He added that it was an ethical issue brought to the board by the Alaska Wildlife Troopers although the practice has not been seen often in Alaska.

 

The measure was passed unanimously by the seven member board.
