BOG Meetings to Discuss Sheep Hunting

The Board of Game will meet in Wasilla February 13-20 and one conversation topic which has drawn attention is statewide dall sheep hunting.

Board of Game Chair Ted Spraker of Soldotna said the board has received a lot of feedback from the public.

Spraker: “Some of the big issues are allocation, there’s some concern about crowding that there’s too many sheep hunters especially in the first part of the season, there’s been some concern about aircraft spotting sheep during the season, that’s been a huge issue, there’s been concern about harvest by non-residents compared to how many are taken by the residents.”

The board will hold a “town hall style” work session Friday night at 6:30 pm to further address dall sheep hunting.

For those who cannot attend the meetings in Wasilla, Spraker said there is a way for them to participate.

Spraker: “This will be live streamed, there will also be a bridge number through LIO office, so they could get a hold of the local office and get a number so they can actually call in if they can’t make it to this meeting. So we’re going to try to make this as public as we possibly can and so rather than folks having to drive up for that one meeting they’ll be able to listen in and if they want to be able to add a comment they’ll be able to call in.”
