BOG Votes Down Trapping Restrictions

The Board of Game discussed proposals for trapping on the Kenai Peninsula and unanimously voted them down.

Those proposals would have eliminated trapping within 250 ft of campgrounds, trails and roads in the areas of Cooper Landing, Seward, and Moose Pass.

The proposals proponents stated that being able to trap near popular trails is a threat to hikers, their children and dogs.

Board members said the proposals covered too much ground and lacked clear boundaries. They advised trappers to be responsible while trapping.

The Alaska Department of Fish and Game Area Management Biologist said they do not hear of accidents with traps very often.
