Fairbanks police say four officers were involved in the shooting that left an armed suspect fatally wounded.
They are releasing few other details in part because the shooting scene, which has not been disclosed, may be hazardous.
Police called in the Fort Wainwright Explosive Ordnance Disposal team to assist at the scene of the shooting.
Police say they took two calls Monday morning of a man in a mask carrying a long gun. Responding officers contacted the man, who police say “confronted the officers.”
The department says officers returned fire and the suspect died at the scene. The four officers have been placed on administrative leave for at least three days.
The names of the officers and the suspect have not been released.
