Bonus Hunt! Kenai Peninsula Registration Goat Hunts Open November 1: Permits Available October 24

Author: Nick Sorrell |

Mountain goat population numbers on the Kenai Peninsula and low harvest during the drawing hunts earlier this fall have led to late-season registration hunt opportunities in Unit 7. Permits will be available beginning Tuesday, October 24 at 8:00 A.M. online at http://hunt.alaska.gov, or in person at department offices in Anchorage, Palmer, Homer, or Soldotna.

The following hunts are scheduled to open November 1- November 14:

  • RG345, Whidbey Bay (limited to 24 permits)
  • RG347, Seward West (limited to 12 permits)

Late-season harvest opportunities are based on success rates during the drawing hunt season. Goat harvest objective points are calculated using one unit for billies and two units for nannies. Hunters are reminded that the bag limit is one goat and hunters are encouraged to select a billy.

Hunters who harvest a nanny are prohibited from hunting goats in Units 7 and 15 for five regulatory years. The taking of nannies accompanied by a kid is prohibited.

Seasons will close November 14, 2022, at 11:59 P.M., unless closed earlier by Emergency Order (EO) if harvest objectives are reached. Harvest objectives are 6 goat points for Whidbey Bay and 4 goat points for Seward West.

A harvested billy counts as one goat point and a nanny as two goat points.
