Three new members were sworn into the Kenai Peninsula Borough Assembly last night and members said goodbye to those whose term limits were up.
Hal Smalley, Charlie Pierce, and Bill Smith all said they are confident in the new members’ abilities and shared what they will miss about assembly.
Smalley: “Oh I think everything I enjoyed the discussions that I’ve had amongst ourselves, with the administration, and with the public, I think getting all the information out, talking about it, getting everybody hopefully as close to the same page as possible is the goal.”
Pierce: “I don’t think I’ll miss it, I feel like it was fulfilling while I was here, I’ll stand by the sidelines, cheer them along and give them advice along the way if I see things as I see it, and I’m pretty good at calling an ace an ace and a spade a spade and I’ll see what happens three or four years from now.”
Smith: “You know it’s a pretty good group of people to work with and I also like when people show up and like the huge variety of issues the borough gets involved in, from solid waste to animal control, floods, erosion and roads and the list goes on and we also have interest in what happens in the state legislature, we have more influence there than we do at the federal government level. “
The new members will participate in their first meeting on October 28, where the new assembly president and vice president will be voted on.
