The Kenai Peninsula Borough Assembly will conduct its monthly meeting beginning at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 13th in the Betty J. Glick Assembly Chambers at the Borough Building in Soldotna.
The meeting agenda contains nine Ordinances for public hearing, including grant funding for the Kenai Peninsula Borough Fish Passage Project, funding for the Seward Bear Creek Flood Service Area Fund and an ordinance amending the Deputy Borough Clerk Job Description. Many of the Ordinances, if not all, may be moved forward via the consent agenda. A pair of resolutions, one to accept resignation of Assembly Member Jesse Bjorkman and one to declare local economic disaster for 2021 and 2022 for Upper Cook Inlet East Side Set Net Fishery are also on the agenda.
Borough Mayor Mike Navarre on the size of the agenda for Tuesday’s general meeting.
“The Assembly Meeting on the 13th has a huge agenda. There are nine ordinances up for public hearing; two resolutions and there’s also, in addition to that, another ten ordinances up for introduction and a number of other things including the materials site ordinance which is up for public hearing again, not up for passage but it will take time. Likely to be a long meeting.”
According to Navarre, a majority of the in-depth work is completed in committee meeting which allows for items to advance in the general meeting.
“That’s when the work gets done! That’s when they ask questions of administration; education issue they might have the Superintendent there; a construction issue we certainly have our capitol projects manager; solid waste our solid waste manager; roads issue, need more money for roads, etc., etc. They’ll be there, they’ll answer questions to the Assembly. The Assembly, your representatives, get their questions answered to their satisfaction. If they don’t, then they can pull that item off of the consent agenda and have more debate about it. It they do (have enough information) they’re going to leave it on the consent agenda to help move along and make it somewhat more efficient. But it is still very detailed about getting into the questions and answers about what’s going on with those items.”
