The 2017 Kenai Peninsula Borough Cross Country Running Championships, held on the Ohlson Mountain Ski Trails in Homer on Tuesday, crowned the Kenai Kardnial girls and Soldotna High School boys team champions; both teams were pushed by the Homer Mariners, who finished second in the team scoring in both girls and boys events.
Kenai senior Addison Gibson raced to the individual, varsity title leading the Kenai girls to the team title. Gibson competed the 3-kilometer course in 10 minutes, 48 seconds. Kenai placed four runners in the top five with Jaycie Calvert in 3rd, Riana Boonstra in 4th, and Brooke Satathite in fifth.
On the boys side, the Soldotna boys capture the team title and Kenai freshman Maison Dunham recorded the fastest time on the 3-kilometer course for the boys individual title. Dunham finished in 9 minutes and 17 seconds, just one second ahead of Homer’s Jacob Davis and two seconds in-front-of SoHi’s Josh Shuler.
