Two Kenai Peninsula students recently won their divisions in the 3rd IPF Classic Powerlifting World Championships in Salo Finland.

Kenai Peninsula Borough Mayor Mike Navarre recognized the girls at Tuesday’s borough assembly meeting.

Kenai Central High School senior Cipriana Castellano is out of state competing again but SoHi junior Robin Johnson attended the meeting.

Johnson: “The win hasn’t even settled in yet and then just the borough recognizing C.C. and I like makes you feel important, like you’re actually doing something. So it’s cool.”

Johnson won her body weight class over 16 others by squatting 341 pounds, bench pressing 176 pounds, and deadlifting 347 pounds.

Castellano won her body weight class in the sub junior division by squatting 336 pounds, bench pressing 181 pounds, and deadlifting 380 pounds.

Before powerlifting, Johnson was a competitive cheerleader, and since the win plans to focus on crossfit along with Olympic lifting.

Johnson: “This whole experience that I’ve had this last almost year and a half has just been such a spontaneous adventure for me and I’m just going to keep doing that and if it turns out then maybe I’ll go to nationals for Olympic lifting and then maybe even power lift a couple years from now. So just whatever happens happens.”
