The period for filing Kenai Peninsula Borough tax exemptions is upon us and Assessing Director Tom Anderson said there has been an increase in senior applications over the last few years.

Anderson: “The number of applications for that program does grow every year and I believe that simply reflects the changing demographics of our population.”

He said the Senior and Disabled Veterans exemptions application deadline has changed from February 15 to March 31.

Anderson defined an exemption is a partial or a complete exclusion from taxable status for property tax purposes and outlined the other leading application the borough sees.

Anderson: “The homeowners exemption which exempts up to $50,000 in assessed value of the property and the requirements for that exemption are that the applicant must own the property and occupy it as their primary residence. There is an application deadline for that which is January 15.”
