The Kenai Peninsula Borough will be testing the KPB Alerts system beginning Friday, January 24 between 10:00 am and 2:00 pm. During the test, residents will receive an automated phone call to landline and registered mobile phones, as well as a text message if residents are signed up for that service.
Dan Nelson, Emergency Manager for the Borough Office of Emergency Management: “This system is the emergency notification system that reaches out to folks via telephone, voice call, or text message. We’re testing it to make sure that we still have all of our systems in good working order, and that everybody is reached.”
The call will contain a recording indicating that the call was a test and that no action is necessary. This periodic test is an important part of ensuring that the KPB Alerts system is functioning properly, and allows for Borough residents to ensure that their registration details are accurate.
Nelson: “It’s been about a year and a half since we’ve tested, since we’ve rolled out, so we’re taking this opportunity to do another test, to make sure everything is in good working order before we have another emergency situation.”
