Next Tuesday, January 20 a resolution supporting the request of the Department of Public safety to add a trooper detail to the community of Nikiski will be introduced to the Kenai Peninsula Borough Assembly.
Ann Krogseng with the Nikiski Community Action Group previously spoke with us about the community efforts to twart criminal activities in the area like showing up to repeat offenders’ court hearings.
Krogseng: “I think that the community has risen to the call for action and for vigilance to look at what’s going on in our community and take an active role in keeping it safe, we all have a personal responsibility to work with the system that’s in place to make it stronger, it’s only as good as we are involved. So by being here today I think it was a statement to the offender and to the court that we want to create a community and continue to have a community that’s safe and we’re participating in that process by being here.”
The Nikiski Community Action Group was formed last year during a series of meetings in regards to property crimes in the area.
During those meetings, hundreds of Nikiski residents banded together to discuss the problem with the branches of the Alaska State Troopers, State Legislators, and local representatives.
The resolution is being introduced by Assembly Members Kelly Wolf and Wayne Ogle during the January 20th meeting which will begin at 6 pm.
