The Kenai Peninsula Borough’s Marijuana Task Force met for the first time last week.

During that meeting a chairman was chosen, members decided to look for four more public members, and comments on behalf of the borough were created regarding the state’s first set of commercial regulations.

Borough Assembly Member Wayne Ogle said Kasilof Resident Leif Able was chosen as the chairman and overall Ogle thinks the task force is comprised of a fair mix of volunteers.

Asm. Ogle(Nikiski): “I look at the makeup of the group and there’s two or three of us who voted against Prop 2 to begin with but we all understand and know that it’s now state law. We all want to make sure that the implementation is reasonable and sensible.”

The task force members also reviewed the initial set of commercial regulations put forward by the Alcoholic Beverage Control Board, which is currently in charge of creating marijuana regulations.

Asm. Ogle(Nikiski): “We went through them and made some comments, questions we had about it, the borough attorney had some comments and legal opinion of what some of the issues were. Then we reviewed all that kind of stuff and we came up with comments going to the ABC Board.”

Those full recommendations to the ABC Board on behalf of the borough can be found here.

Ogle said the task force also voted to add four additional public members which was outlined as a possibility in the borough ordinance that created the task force.

Applicants will be reviewed at the task force’s next meeting which is scheduled for July 15.
