Five Kenai Peninsula School District teachers have been included in BP’s 2016 Teachers of Excellence program, which honors K-12 teachers from all school districts; public and private, with winners receiving a $500 gift card and a $500 matching grant to their school.

“We had a really difficult time with the selection committee because there was so many excellent candidates and teachers nominated, more than fifty but the final selection was for five.”

The five KPBSD nominees are Darilynn Caston of Redoubt Elementary, Sharon Hopkins of Tustumena Elementary, James Knoebel of Soldotna High School, Nickole Lyon of Seward Elementary and Patricia Truesdell of  Hope K-12 School.

“Superintendent Dusek went around and surprised each one of the teachers at their schools…some of them were a little nervous when the superintendent walked in unannounced.”

A celebration banquet will be held on May 4th at which time the Kenai Peninsula Teacher of the Year will be recognized.
