Tournament Seeding and Bracketing: Revised
The 2021 Division II Hockey Championship bracket was initially formatted with nine qualifiers and a play-in contest scheduled for Wednesday, February 17th at the Menard Arena.
The winner of the Homer, #3 seed from Peninsula, vs Houston, #2 seed from Mat-Su, play-in game was originally scheduled to play Juneau in the bracket on Thursday.
Juneau’s co-op team of Juneau and Thunder Mountain was granted a berth to the championships; even though, Juneau had not played any high school teams and the Juneau School District has not allowed teams to travel from or to the district for extra-curricular activities in 2021.
On Monday, Juneau notified ASAA that Juneau would not fill the assigned berth. The tournament was then revised to an eight-team, three-day bracket with eight qualifiers seeded by regular season records.
The Kenai Kardinals enter the state tournament as the #1 seed from the Kenai Peninsula with a 4-2 overall record; followed by SoHi with a 3-3 record and Homer standing at 2-4. The three peninsula teams played each other three times, including three overtime games involving the Mariners. Season game results are available at radiokenai.com.
