Multiple agencies are currently fighting an 80 acre wildfire in Tyonek; the village has been evacuated according to the Divsion of Forestry.
Nikiski Fire Chief James Baisden gave us an update.
Baisden: “With the location of Tyonek right now, we don’t have good contact with them right now and they’re working the fire, our last report was at 80 acres. We have 10 firefighters from Nikiski and eight from Beluga fire department along with forestry and smoke jumpers on the scene and they are doing drops also from the air so it sounds like we’ve got a pretty good crew on it.”
Baisden said they are staying behind the fire due to erratic winds.
