Brown Bears Open Midwest Division Playoffs In Fairbanks

The Kenai River Brown Bears, having completed the regular season with a 28-24-8 record and a fourth place position in the Midwest Division, open play in the NAHL’s first round of playoffs on Friday, April 4th and Saturday, April 5th in Fairbanks.

 

The Brown Bears will face the Fairbanks Ice Dogs in the playoff’s first round, best of five series.  The Ice Dogs earn home-ice advantage and will host the first two playoff games at the Big Dipper Arena on Friday and Saturday, April 4-5 at 7:30 each night.  Game three and an “if necessary” game four at the Soldotna Regional Sports Complex on April 8-9.

 

Kenai River closed the regular season with a 28-24-8 record after dropping a 5-1 decision on Friday and a 7-3 decision on Saturday in Fairbanks to the division leading Ice Dogs.  Coulee River closed the season with a 7-3 loss to Minnesota locking the Brown bears in to the fourth seed for the playoffs.  The top four teams in the Midwest Division qualify to the playoffs.

 

NAHL Facts:

The Ice Dogs clinch the NAHL regular-season title with the league’s best record at 43-14-1; Fairbank’s first 40-win season and first time with the best record in NAHL.

Ice Dogs earn home-ice advantage throughout the playoffs, including semi-final and Robertson Cup championship round.

Ice Dogs are 13-3 against the Brown Bears.

Kenai River’s Alec Butcher earned the NAHL scoring title with 66 points on 24 goals and 42 assists.
